BESS bankability in Italy: key considerations for utility-scale projects

In a recent interview with pv magazine Italia, Simone Prato, Country Lead Italy at Enertis Applus+, discusses the rapid growth of Italy’s energy storage market and the key factors shaping the bankability of utility-scale BESS projects.

The interview explores the role of Technical Due Diligence in identifying and assessing technical, contractual and operational risks that can ultimately have financial consequences. Key considerations include battery degradation, augmentation strategies, supplier reliability, contractual structures, safety and cybersecurity, as well as their potential impact on project financing and long-term performance.

Drawing on our experience supporting around 80 BESS projects in Italy, representing more than 70 GWh of storage capacity, Simone also shares insights into the evolution of the Italian market and the challenges developers, investors and lenders need to consider as projects move from development to execution.
